Rules and Contests
RULES
1. THIS IS MEANT TO BE A FUN TOURNAMENT. Everyone is here to have a great time so don’t take this too seriously. This is friendly competition so don’t ruin your trip or anyone else’s trying to be too intense. Please be courteous to your fellow players and treat everyone with respect. If you feel the need to complain, please call someone not attending the tournament to get things off your chest. None of the players at the event want to hear anything other than positive, fun banter. Listening to someone complain is a downer and everyone just wants to play golf, hang with the fellas, and talk about what a blast they're having. If you have any issues or complaints about a fellow player, please let Mike Smoot know after the round.

2. PUTT EVERYTHING OUT! NO GIMMIES! No gimmies means ever… please putt all putts until they are holed. Please decline any “that one is good” comments. Thanks for your cooperation.
3. RANGE FINDERS WITH SLOPE ARE OK. Using the slope function on your laser device is OK but please do not use green reading books or devices.
4. PLEASE PLAY QUICK AND STAY UP WITH THE GROUP AHEAD OF YOU. Every year we have this conversation before every round so I thought I’d add it to the rules. We all must do our part to play ready golf and to play as quick as possible. I know we all grind a bit harder in tournaments but none of us are professionals so please try and be ready to play when it’s your turn. If possible, have your yardage and club pulled and be ready if you are next to play. You don’t have to be the quickest in your group but please don’t be the slowest. You have to do all you can to stay up with group ahead of you. If you fall behind a hole, you must do all you can to catch up. Playing quick makes the rounds more enjoyable for everyone and we are all about having as much fun as possible here at the McDuff.

5. FOR BALLS THAT ARE HIT INTO THE DESERT. In 2026, you get two free drops for balls that you hit into the desert. For example, if you slice your tee shot into the desert, you must take a drop at the exact location where you and your playing partners agree it crossed from the fairway into the desert. You will then take a drop within two club lengths from that spot with no penalty and play your next shot. After this happens twice in a round, you will then take a one stroke penalty for every ball you hit into the desert. There will be no looking for balls in the desert until AFTER your next ball is played and even if it is found, you can't play it so pick it up and move on. We are playing everything as a lateral hazard including out of bounds stakes.

6. LOST BALLS IN THE FAIRWAY. If your group determines that a ball is lost in the fairway (not the rough) from tee to green, take a drop where everyone thinks the ball should be with a one stroke penalty. All other lost balls would require a drop at the point at which the ball was played from.

7. TIE-BREAKERS. If there is a tie for the final spot in the Championship Flight after round two, we will go to the scorecards and add up the scores for the #1 handicap holes from both rounds one and two and the player(s) with the lowest score will move into the Championship Flight while the others will drop into the Consolation Flight. If there is still a tie after looking at the #1 handicap hole, we will move to the #2 handicap hole for the two rounds and so on until there is a winner. If there is a tie in the Championship Flight after the final round is complete, those that are ties for first will have a 5-hole putt off. The player who negotiates the course in the least number of strokes will be declared the winner. If there is still a tie, we will have a one-hole chip off and the player who chips their ball the closest to the hole will be declared the winner. If there is a tie in the Consolation Flight after the final round, we will declare co-Consolation Flight winners and will add up the money for first and second and we’ll split it.

8. PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING IN ALL SITUATIONS. Be considerate of all your playing partners and have a great time. Do whatever you can to help them out. You can actually make this one of the highlights of your summer or you can decide to make yourself and others miserable (AND NOT BE INVITED BACK). Again, this is supposed to be a fantastic time playing golf so smile, laugh, and enjoy the courses and the company.

9. REMEMBER… PLAY IT AS IT LIES… NO GIMMIES… PLAY QUICK… BE FAIR... HAVE FUN… KEEP YOUR MOANING TO YOURSELF... ENJOY YOURSELF AND THE COMPANY OF THE GROUP... PLAY WELL AND IF YOU DON'T, WHO CARES... YOU ARE IN BEAUTIFUL ST. GEORGE AND YOU AREN'T AT WORK! :-)
CONTESTS
1. NET AND GROSS SKINS. To win a "skin", you must be the lowest score on any particular score without tying another player in your flight. We will be offering GROSS (without handicap) and NET (with handicap) SKINS on every course. For example...if you birdie a par 3 and nobody else in your flight does the same thing, you would win a skin. We take the total amount of money in the pot and divide that by the number of skins won that day. If there is $300 in the pot and two players win skins, each player would win $150 for their skin. If five players win a skin, each player would win $60 for their skin.

2. CLOSEST TO THE PINS. The winner is the player who hits their tee shot closest to the hole in their flight. There will be (3) Closest to the Pin winners on every par 3 hole on every course in 2026. We usually only do it on two different holes per course but we are changing it to include every hole. There will be three winners for each hole so a total of 12 winners per day will win the $20 prize (Coral Canyon has five par 3's so there will be 15 winners that day).
3. PAR 3's. The Par 3 Contest is won by hitting greens in regulation on the Par 3 holes. Points are assigned to each Par 3 and they are listed on your scorecard. If you hit the green, you circle the number associated with that hole (either one point or two points). If you get 4 points, you win $10. If you get 5 or 6 points and you score the highest number of points or tie for the highest number of points within your flight, you will win or will split the funds from the players that fail to get at least 4 points.
4. HOLE IN ONE FUND. We collect $2 from every player to start each and every McDuff. The pot builds as tournaments end with no hole in ones. Last year we had a player get a hole in one and they left with approx. $940 so this year, we are staring fresh with $240 in the pot. The pot will be won or split in one or more hole in one's are made during a singular McDuff. For example, if two players get hole in ones this year, they would each win $120.

5. TEAM COMPETITION. This contest consists of eight teams with 15 players on each team. Teams score points with their daily golf scores, their Closest to the Pin rankings, and their Par 3 scores. The golfing stroke portion breaks down to be worth 50% of their score and the Closest to the Pin and Par 3 scores make up 25% each.
Here is a breakdown of how we score each portion of the Team Competition:
A. Stroke Play - The top 12 scores of the team's 15 scores count towards the final daily team score. Once all the scores are tallied for each team, they are ranked and a point total is given to each ranking. The 1st place team gets 10 points, 2nd place gets 8 points, 3rd place gets 6 points, 4th place gets 5 points, 5th place gets 4 points, 6th place gets 3 points, 7th place gets 2 points, and 8th place gets 1 point.
B. Closest to the Pin - We will take the top three distances from each flight on each Par 3 and give a point total for closest (6 pts), 2nd closest (2.5 pts), and 3rd closest (1 pt). We add up all the scores for each team at the end of the round and assign points to 1st place (2.5 pts), 2nd place (2 pts), 3rd place (1.5 pts), 4th place (1.25 pts), 5th place (1 pt), 6th place (.75 pts), 7th place (.50 pts), and 8th place (.25 pts).
C. Par 3's - We add up all the scores for the Par 3 Contest for all the team's players at the end of the round and assign points to the team with the highest score down to the lowest score. 1st place will receive 2.5 pts, 2nd place (2 pts), 3rd place (1.5 pts), 4th place (1.25 pts), 5th place (1 pt), 6th place (.75 pts), 7th place (.50 pts), and 8th place (.25 pts).
